Book of Destinies: Discover the Life You Were Born to Live

Chetan Parkyn and Carola Eastwood
have a new book especially fitting for this time of year as many of us look at what’s ahead this coming year.
The Book of Destinies: Discover the Life You Were Born to Live (New World Library, Dec. 2016) is now available and is a companion book to Human Design, Discover the Person You Were Born To Be. As the subtitle tells us, The Book of Destinies is about discovering your life’s purpose and presents in-depth profiles of 192 Life Themes that starts with your place, date and time of your birth—but it can’t really be described as astrology either, as you will discover below. Human Design is a modern system that draws from many ancient wisdom traditions. A free Human Design report is available at both LifeConnectionMagazine.com and HumanDesignForUsAll.com.
An interview with Chetan Parkyn and Carola Eastwood. By Steve Hays.
Steve: What led you to Human Design? There wasn’t much information out there about it until you wrote about it.
Chetan: It think from my side of things it started when I was not making sense out of my own life. I tried all the right things, got the engineering degree, had good qualifications, a good paying job, but it just didn’t add up. I wasn’t happy in my life. I needed to find better answers, and the best answers I received were from the people who were doing the work we are now doing.
Carola: For me it was a discovery that really changed everything in my life. I learned that I have a direct relationship with what I call God, or Spirit or Universal Wisdom. Once I had that experience—an awakening experience that lasted three days where I was in bliss, in God consciousness—but after that my life no longer made sense. The life I had created for myself no longer had any meaning for me. I had to start searching and began reading all the ancient wisdom traditions. I learned astrology, an ancient language I seemed to already know. I studied Edgar Cayce, past life transitions, the different world religions, and found that the common thread was love.
This spiritual awakening at a young age really changed everything. My first astrology reading was astounding. It helped me understand my life, my purpose, my path—it was an intellectual and soul level experience. Because I had this awakening experience I wanted to share that with others and wanted to find a way to help others have that same experience. And then I discovered Human Design.
Steve: What was it, Carola, that was different about Human Design compared to what you did with Planetary Cycles and astrology?
Carola: One difference is that Human Design has only been around for less than 25 years. It’s a new system that was channeled in. I believe it was a gift to humanity for these times of massive change and global awakening. It’s a system that combines four of the ancient traditions. It has elements of astrology, the Kabballah, the I Ching and elements of the chakra systems. Along with the ancient wisdom systems, it also brings in very modern science. Human genetic coding, for instance, as well as neutrino physics. So what happens as we begin to look into this system is we see that what we’ve been given is like a manual for living; like an operator’s manual for a car, but it’s for your life. Why would you take this journey, live this lifetime, without having some goal, intention and a map on how to get there.? Human Design is that map with very specific tools for living in alignment with our higher self and highest truth.
Steve: Tell us about your new book, The Book of Destinies: Discover the Life You Were Born to Live, and what people can get from it.
Chetan: Yes. This new book has really been 30 years in the making. In fact, I was told about all three books we have written so far in a Psychic Reading I had in 1979 in India. It took thirty years for the first one to come out. That was Human Design: Discover the Person You Were Born to Be. The second was Book of Lines: A 21st Century View of I Ching, The Book of Changes.
As we’ve done thousands of readings, we’ve worked with the Life Themes—192 of them over and over and over again, refining them each time. When we tell people about their Life Theme often it draws tears from people because the recognition is so absolutely crystal clear they say, “Yes. That is what I came here for. This is how my life unfolds And you’re describing it to me.”
So what we’ve found is that this book gives tremendous reassurance to people who have never stopped to wonder. People who have never read their “owner’s manual”—they never had one. With this they’re getting the owner’s manual and not only how to live in their own truth, but the whole picture, where life is taking them and how to have the most fulfilling experience.
Carola: The Book of Destinies shows us our destiny path and the purpose for the entire lifetime that our soul envisioned before we incarnated. Not the details of the life but the essential purpose and meaning of the life. Why are you here? What are you here to experience and what are you here to be and do? It’s there in the Life Theme. And it’s not only fascinating to find out about your own life theme, which, of course, is the what you look at first, but then you can look at your children’s, your husband, girlfriend, parents, coworkers, business partners Life Themes too — it’s just one of those coffee table books that you can use year after year.
Steve: I noticed when I had my Human Design chart done it seemed to bring up many of the thoughts or observations that I’ve had about myself and collected them in a way that gave them a voice—it unified them in a way I had not realized. I noticed consistencies—thoughts or approaches—that I had not noticed about myself.
Chetan: Yes, it’s an integrating system really. The system itself consists of all these different components but by the time it’s compressed it shows the consistencies of who we are and how we get through our life.
Carola: And the beauty of it is it also gives us some tools for living. So it’s not just about our life purpose and our evolutionary journey, but we also have the help of a map for the lifetime that gives us tools and keys. There are many, but the three main Keys are—our Type, our Authority or decision making process, and our Profile which is our relating process. With these three keys we can actually begin to streamline our life so we are only attracting into our life those people, those experiences, those opportunities that are truly meant for us and that are in alignment with our essence. When that happens life becomes easier.
There aren’t so many detours.
I’ve had clients in my practice who have had years of detours—decades worth. Marriages that went on and on and on that never worked. Or going down the wrong career path. Trusting no one. People are often told go to college, choose something, get a degree and that’s no way to decide how you are going to spend 30-40 years of your life.
With Human Design and with knowing one’s Life Theme, people are directed to their own truth at any given time and any situation.
Steve: Yes, it’s easy to get stuck sometimes in thinking life should be lived a certain way or we need to take a certain path over another. In your book you reference a study that talked to people who were are the end of their life. Can you talk about that?
Chetan: Yes, that was Bronnie Ware. She was a hospice volunteer who sat at the bedside of people who just had hours or days to live and what she found time after time, people talked about their regrets and how they missed out on life. They hadn’t lived their life. They lived somebody else’s idea of how their life was supposed to be—and there they were, and their life was all over and it was too late.
Carola: What she said in her book (The Top Five Regrets of the Dying: A Life Transformed by the Dearly Departing) is that the number one regret was that they wished they had lived the life they really wanted to live instead of doing what everyone else expected of them.
That was the number one regret and it’s the number one problem we have in life. We try to live other people’s expectations and fulfill those instead of living our own truth and that always puts us off -track and off -purpose. We’re not following our map.
Chetan: Obviously from that, we get to be very unhappy at times.
Carola: And we miss opportunities, which is very sad too.
Steve: The Planetary Cycles column, had a more an personal focus as well as an overview, in a sense, of how there were shifts going on globally—how energies can affect all of us. Is that part of the Human Design work that you both do now?
Chetan: Yes, indeed. We’ve developed a program called the Energies and Opportunities 2017 Program. It’s all about the movement of energy in the world, and in our personal lives, month-to-month, what’s going on for people at large and basically how to recognize important opportunities and avoid pitfalls. It’s a program we offer yearly. People really love it.
But yes, looking at the situation globally it’s a time of massive transformation and we know we are moving out of the Piscean Age and moving into the Aquarian Age and it’s like chalk and cheese. It’s completely different.
The Piscean Age was always a faith based time. There were 300 or so major religions developed in that time—in the last 2000 years or so. It was faith based, trust in God and everything is going to be fine. The whole thing about the Aquarian Age is you’ve got to trust in yourself. And you’ve got to find out the signals that relate to you as an individual as a pure consciousness in human form. All the “rules to the game” have changed.
People have to take responsibility for themselves now. They can’t blame the church or God, or the priest or the king—
Carola: Or the government or anybody.
Chetan: But you can see people are still hanging on to that whole idea—Donald Trump is going to save us. I mean please…..
(laughter flowed)
Steve: Yes, and I’m not defending him when I say this, but it seems like it’s making us look at some things we have not evaluated for a while and questioning why we are doing them or what is the best way. In some ways it seems everything is fair game to question and either embrace or change. As a country we may be looking at who we are.
Chetan: That’s the thing. Yes. It’s about becoming powerful individuals in your own life rather than expecting somebody else to tell you what your life is supposed to be and living by their rules. So we are moving away from all kinds of concepts and ideas that are no longer relevant.
Steve: What other aspects of your life or insights are addressed in Human Design? What have you found?
Carola: What we are about is, supporting people to apply our understanding of Human Design, which is why we named our company, Human Design for Us All. At first the information that was revealed was very esoteric and difficult to understand, but what we recognized was it was such a powerful system As. we started living it., our lives began to transforming so profoundly and bringing us delightful experiences. We saw that we could easily make the language more simple so that everybody could understand it, take it and use it.
Steve: Did you see a change in your relationships with others once you started using it?
Carola: It was a total revolution, for me, for instance, in my relationship with my youngest son, who was still living at home when I discovered Human Design. He was thirteen and it completely transformed our relationship. We’ve had families come to us in complete distress, one when the school system wanted to put a child on Ritalin. Seeing the different designs in the family—the child’s design and the different designs in the family and how they interact—enabled us to recommend adjustments that shifted the whole family dynamic in a matter of weeks. Sometimes what we share are simple recommendations that have hugely beneficial results.
Knowing the dynamics of the Family Designs is that powerful, and once you understand it and start implementing it, it goes to every aspect of a life. It’s not just our understanding of ourselves and our happiness, it’s about relating better to everybody around you, by being clearer in the work you do and the business you own. For instance, Chetan and myself. If we didn’t know Human Design, I think we would have struggled in our relationship because our natures are so different. It helps us accept how the other person is and not try to change them—and really grow in our relationship. It makes it more delightful, more loving and more engaging because we understand ourselves and each other.
Chetan: I think it’s important to say that this is a tool for these times and I want to express how important I think it is for people to work with Human Design and find out what their life is about.
Carola: Yes, and if someone gets a Human Design chart the next step is to work with someone who can explain it well so you get the most out of it. I think our gift—after studying it for so many years now—is being able to explain it in a way that gives people the fastest path to mastering their Design and using it in their life.
You were saying, Steve, that people still contact you wishing I was still writing Planetary Cycles each month, your readers might like to know that in our Energies and Opportunities program, Chetan and I share each month about the energies and how they are moving and changing month to month. It’s very affordable and another way people can learn to engage with their Design and the planetary energies as they are moving through time.
Chetan Parkyn and Carola Eastwood have been working together on Human Design for about 23 years. The October and November issues of The Life Connection featured information about the Human Design technology and that is available online at LifeConnectionMagazine.com also. Many TLC readers will remember Carola from her very popular column, Planetary Cycles, in this magazine.
